Scuba Diving Mask |
Snorkel is one of the pieces of essential equipment that a scuba diver would want to invest in the beginning. A snorkel is needed for safety in recreational diving. The snorkel makes it easier to breathe on the surface without lifting head out of the water and to save energy when at the surface. This is important because even in calm conditions, you may have to surface quickly because you do not have any air left. The snorkel can allow you to rest and swim using the snorkel while exiting or while waiting to be picked up. You should look for the following when choosing a snorkel: Most snorkels purchased now are made with a plastic barrel and silicone mouthpiece. The size of the snorkel is necessary for keeping resistance down. Shorter size is less resistance. Don't go too short since the tip may go underwater. Don't go too wide either since it will become difficult to blow water out of the snorkel. Comfortable mouthpiece is necessary. Most of the new high-quality snorkels offer this feature. The silicone mouthpieces allow for softer bit than the old, neoprene mouthpieces. Barrel is flexible or rigid. This is your preference. Some scuba divers prefer the rigid snorkel so they can move it away while they are diving. Some scuba divers like the flexible barrel since you can move the mouthpiece away when you are using your regulator. If you choose the flexible snorkel, get the snorkel with the smooth inside the corregated areas. If you don't, you may have trouble clearing the water with an internally corregated side. Self-draining barrel - This a standard with new snorkels. You will exhale quickly to expel the water through the valve and the top of the snorkel. Some of the newer snorkels are collapsable and easy to store in the BCD pocket. These folding designs do not fit as well as other snorkels and they are a little more difficult to breathe from.
