Scuba Diving Hoods

Hoods protect our heads from losing the heat while scuba diving. Wearing a hood gives your head thermal protection from the cold and protection from sharp objects while diving.

There are many different hoods with a variety of thickness. Most wetsuit hoods have a bib that fits under the jacket. The water won't flow down the neck. Hooded vests are great for the extra insulation. There are hoods with a thinner material for warmer water and thinner material for under chin and neck area for comfort. Cold water hoods can have a unlined neoprene around the opening of the hood This will still allow you to get a good seal on your mask. Another cold water hood may have tiny cutouts for eyes, nose and mouth.

When choosing a hood, the size of the hood and wetsuit are usually the same except for women should usually get the hood the next smaller size down. After the hood is on, make sure it is snug. You should be able to swallow.
