The following are a list of reputable certification companies:

PADI - Professional Association of Dive Instructors was formed in 1966 in the US.

NAUI - National Association of Underwater Instructors was formed in 1959 in the US.

YMCA Scuba - the original scuba diving training program. The first instructors were certified in 1959.
